Project Description
XML to SQL is a simple application that reads an XML document and writes the data to a SQL Database.

Details

XML to SQL is a simple application that reads an XML document, creates a 'clean copy' (i.e. no special characters or embedded quotes), and then writes the data tables into SQL tables. The program creates a new database using the name that you specify in the configuration file.

The syntax of the command line program is:
xml2sql sourceXmlFileName.xml cleanXmlFileName.xml

Any cleanup activity is logged to a file, currently hard coded to "RemoveSpecialCharactersLog.txt".

Reason for Development

The program was created to handle the output from SharePoint's STSADM EnumAllWebs command. When used against a large farm, the EnumAllWebs output can be an XML file that exceeds 1GB in size. Shredding the file and storing in SQL for analysis with Excel greatly facilitates analysis.
